From our SpecialTEA selection Tai Ping Hou Kui (meaning peaceful monkey leader) is an elegant tea from the foothills of Huangshan (Anhui province). It features beautiful, hand-pressed, deep green leaves. The aroma that greets you when opening the bag is reminiscent of chestnuts with a light fruitiness. Once brewed you can enjoy a light-bodied tea with slight nuances of nut, sweet grass and delicate floral undertones.

Due to the leave size the traditional brewing method (in a gaiwan) can bring some challenges. Using a larger vessel and pouring the water over the leaves will be easier.

About the leaves: This tea (harvested May 2020) is produced from plants around 10 years old known as Persimmon Big Leaf. Locally the tea is known as Tai Ping Jian Cha.

Ingredients: Green Tea.

Steeping Instructions: use one teaspoon of leaves with for every 8 fl oz 70-80ºC/ 158-170°F water; steep for ~2-3 minutes*.

About the tea: Contains caffeine.

*Tastes are different. The steeping instructions are recommendations, but we suggest experimenting with different steeping temperatures to find your preferred tea taste. Depending on the water quality boiling the water may be advisable. You can let the water cool to the desired temperature.
